The Answers You Need

What Are Eyelash Extensions?

Eyelash extensions is a technique that extends the length and thickness of your natural eyelashes. Lash extensions are single strands of lashes that are curved to replicate a natural eyelash. We use only quality extensions in faux mink and silk. They are applied to each individual natural eyelash one by one for a natural, beautiful and luscious look.

How will the lash extensions look and feel when applied?

When applied they will look completely natural, only much longer and fuller. They will feel like your own eyelashes. We do not count lashes, we will add as many or as few as needed to create the right look for you.

How long will it take to apply my first set of eyelash extensions?

You can expect your first appointment to take approximately 75-120 minutes depending on the set of lashes you desire. Lashes are applied while lying down with your eyes closed in a cozy, warm spa bed. A great time to sneak in some beauty rest...many clients fall asleep! We do not count lashes and will use as many as are needed to create the right look for you.

How long do eyelash extensions last?

Eyelash extensions can last up to four to six weeks when properly cared for. However they are no longer full at six weeks. Therefore regular fills are recommended to keep your lashes full. The extensions will shed with the natural growth cycle of your own lashes. If you choose to get touch-ups in between they will last as long as you continue to fill and properly care for them.

How often should I get a fill and why do I lose some of my eyelashes?

We recommend getting a fill every 2 to 3 weeks. If you wait too long, a majority of your eyelash extensions will fall out and will require a full set. Other factors such as exposure to steam, humidity or touching your eyes alot may cause the extensions to fall sooner. Fills can take anywhere from 45 - 60 minutes, depending on how long you wait between appointments. During your touch-up appointment, we will remove grown-out extensions, prime your lashes and apply extensions to new lash growth. Due to the natural growth cycle of your lashes you will find your natural eyelashes shed every 60-90 days as new lashes grows in. We recommend getting a fill every two to three weeks to fill in.

Will extensions damage my eyelashes?

If applied properly, no. However, your lashes can be damaged if your technician is not properly trained, uses cheap products not intended for long wear, and applies lashes that are too long or too heavy for your natural lashes. It is important to seek a licensed stylist who stays up to date with current trends and continued education.

I have sensitivities to makeup and/or other beauty products/services, can I still have an eyelash service done?

If you have any eye sensitivities we do recommend you book an appointment for a 'Patch Test' first. During this appointment we will have a consultation with you and apply a small amount of product to your eyelashes or sensitive skin to test whether you are a good candidate for the service. Aftercare is critical for the health and prevention of developing a possible allergic reaction. Eye infections are more common due to improperly washing and caring for your lashes. Washing your lashes daily not only helps prevent infections but will increase your lash retention.

Can I use eyelash growth products with my extensions?

Lash growth products that contain steroids change the composition of your lashes and accelerate your eyelash shedding cycle, therefore we cannot guarantee the outcome. Natural lash growth products containing peptides are wonderful and will have no adverse effect on the longevity of your extensions.

Will I still need to use mascara?

No, you will not need to use mascara with your lash extensions, but for occasions where you are looking for that little extra drama you can use a water-based mascara. DO NOT USE OIL-BASED OR WATER-PROOF MASCARA. Waterproof mascara or any type of oil based mascara can dissolve the bonding agent and shorten the life of your eyelash extensions causing them to fall sooner. Care also needs to be taken in washing off the mascara. Only use a water based eye makeup remover. We carry mascara and makeup remover for purchase that is made specifically for eyelash extensions.

What is the application process?

You will be comfortably reclined with your eyes closed while lash extensions are applied one at a time to your own natural eyelashes. There is no discomfort or pain involved in the procedure. In fact, most clients find it is so relaxing and comfortable that they fall asleep.

I have no lashes at all, can I wear eyelash extensions?

Because eyelashes extensions are applied to existing natural lashes you must have some natural lashes to receive the procedure. Lash extensions should not, and in many cases cannot, be applied to clients who have alopecia, are undergoing chemotherapy or those who suffer from Trichotillomania, unless and until the individual has received effective treatment and normal lash growth has resumed.

Can I use eyelash curlers with eyelash extensions?

We do not recommend using mechanical eyelash curlers on your eyelash extensions as these curlers will damage the extensions and possibly your own natural lashes. The extensions do have a natural curl.

I'm a bride-to-be or going on vacation, when is the best time to book an appointment?

If you've never had eyelash extensions applied before then we recommend booking a full-set 2 weeks before your wedding date or departure date at the latest. And then to book a fill 1 or 2 days before the date. This will allow time to experiment with different lashes, learn proper aftercare and ensure there are no allergies to the product. Booking a month in advance plus 2 fills before the date would be an ideal situation.

Who should not wear eyelash extensions?

Eyelash extensions may not be suitable for people who:

  • Have pre-existing eyelid or eye conditions such as blepharitis and ocular rosacea
  • Are very rough with themselves and do not want to follow after care instructions
  • Want a very heavy mascara look but do not have the natural lashes to support it
  • Have a condition called Trichotillomania, which is compulsive pulling or twisting of hair or eyelashes
  • Are in chlorinated water many times a week
  • Cannot control rubbing their eyes

Can I swim, shower, exercise, or visit a spa while wearing eyelash extensions?

Absolutely! The adhesive we use is waterproof and allows you to shower, swim, exercise etc. Special care is required but overall maintenance is low. For those that visit the sauna or bigram yoga, you may experience a heavier shedding of the extensions. We have a product you can use between fills that will help your lash retention.

Do you customize the solution?

Yes, your custom color will be based on several factors such as; your skin type, hair color, eye color, and most importantly, what shade of tan you desire. We are certified and educated on the science behind our solutions and skincare to make sure you receive the best service. With the Rapid solution, you have the opportunity to customize it with your post session shower time.

Do I need to worry about turning orange?

No. The "orange" color can also be the result of high pH levels within the skin or high levels of DHA in product itself. We use a prep spray that balances the skin's pH levels and is always applied at no extra charge prior to your sunless applicaiton. We always want to ensure that you walk out with the perfect tan.

What is the difference between the standard and the rapid solution?

The only difference is shower time. Both solutions have the ability to be as light or as dark as you desire and they both last for the same amount of time. It is important to note that after you shower off the rapid tan, you will feel quite a bit lighter due to the fact that the dark makeup will be gone and your tan will only be 1-4 hours into development. The tan will then continue to develop for 8-20 hours after your shower. With the Standard solution, the tan will darken until you shower (anytime after 10 hours). You will then wash off the makeup layer and instantly become a shade lighter. The color that you see when you finish showering off the Standard tan will be the actual color of your tan.

How should I prepare for my tan?

We highly recommend that you shower and shave one day prior to your tanning session. A glycerin soap is most ideal because it tends to leave the least amount of residue on your skin. (All oil-based soaps should be avoided.) Exfoliating is very important because it will help your tan last longer. The best way to do this is to use a sugar scrub in combination with exfoliating gloves. It is also important to schedule manicure/pedicures, sugaring, and/or waxing appointments before rather than after.

What should I wear to my appointment?

It is best to wear dark, loose fitting clothing and shoes. There is cosmetic bronzer in the solution and there is a chance that it can rub off on clothing. It washes out of most materials, but it is better to be on the safe side and not wear anything light in color.

What should I wear during my treatment?

Ladies, you are welcome to wear as little or as much as you are comfortable wearing. Always keep unwanted tan lines in mind! Gentlemen, we request that you wear underwear or swimwear.

How long should I wait before I work out or shower?

This depends on your solution choice. With the Standard tan, we incourage you to wait the 8-10 hours before you sweat or get wet. With the Rapid tan, you must take a warm water rinse (without soap) sometime in between 1-4 hours of your tanning session. We do recommend no hot yoga or sitting in a steam room for the first 12-24 hours. It could affect the overall darkness of your tan.

Why do you recommend showering without soap within the first 24 hours?

It has been proven that soap neutralizes the development of DHA. We highly recommend just a warm water rinse so that your tan is able to obtain it’s full color. If you would like to use a limited amount of soap in certain areas, that is completely fine as well.

How long will my tan last?

The longevity of a sunless tan depends on the type of self tanning application, the skin's natural exfoliation process, and on the skincare regimen followed before and after application. It should last a minimum of 5- 7 days but has the potential to last as long as two weeks. A professional application, i.e. a sunless tan received at a salon or spa, will last longer than an at-home application or in an automated spray booth. The best thing that you can do to increase the longevity of your tan is to apply a tan extending moisturizer once a day. Also, try to avoid activities that speed up your skin’s natural exfoliation process. Keep in mind that long showers/baths, hot tubs, heavy sweating, and swimming in salt water and/or chlorine all tend to dry out your skin.

I have very fair skin, will an airbrush tan still look natural?

Yes. We will customize a solution that will work with your specific skin tone. However, if you are new to spray tanning, we suggest selecting a lighter shade for the first session.

Will my airbrush tan protect me from the sun?

Unfortunately, it does not, so remember to wear SPF!

Why is keeping the skin moisturized so important?

The active ingredient in airbrush tanning solution is DHA (dihydroxyacetone). The DHA reacts with your dead skin cell’s proteins, resulting in a bronzing effect. Therefore, as your skin goes through its natural exfoliation process, these dead skin cells shed. It is important to note that not every cell sheds at the same rate. You may have some “tanned” cells that remain or last longer than others. (The result of this is a patchy appearance of dark spots that looks similar to freckles.) This has no correlation to your airbrush technician or the solution. Keep in mind that this process tends to be a bit more noticeable when you choose a shade that is significantly darker than your natural skin color. However, you can usually counteract this by moisturizing with a tan extending lotion.

Will really dry skin affect my airbrush tan?

Dry skin may cause the tan to fade unevenly and cause patches. This tends to be more of a concern during the winter months. If you have dry skin, we recommend that you moisturize twice a day for a week leading up to your tanning session. We suggest that you also apply a lotion to dry areas on your skin before your session, but only with a 'sunless safe' product.

Can I get a spray tan if I have a sunburn or my skin is peeling?

Unfortunately, we do not recommend that you get a spray tan while your skin is peeling. Always be sure to wear sunscreen!!

Are spray tans safer than tanning beds?

The solution has been approved for external use by the FDA; however you should avoid getting it in your eyes, mouth or nose. We always provide nose plugs and eye covers to help protext those areas. Spray tanning has also been approved by The Skin Cancer Organization, The American Cancer Society, The Medical Association, and The American Academy of Dermatology. The cumulative damage caused by UV tanning beds can lead to serious health issues that we are all aware of, as well as premature skin aging (wrinkles, lax skin, brown spots, etc.).

I have very sensitive skin, should I be concerned?

If you have concerns over allergies or skin reactions to solutions, I recommend you first do a patch test on a small area of the skin prior to a full body session. If you have a reaction to the spray, a shower should alleviate any discomfort.
